Sustainability

At Eurofins, embedding corporate sustainability principles in our business strategy and the way we operate is an essential component in both creating long-term value and achieving our mission of contributing to a healthier and safer world.

Our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The Eurofins network is committed to operating its businesses according to the highest ethical standards and in a responsible and sustainable manner. To support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, we have made significant efforts in recent years, work that we will continue to develop and improve to align ourselves with the goals as effectively as possible. Environmental Policy

The sense of urgency to improve and protect the health of our planet is at the forefront of many of our testing services that help our clients reduce their environmental impact. We also embed these values into our own actions by continuing to reduce consumption and improve environmental stewardship and energy conservation at sites all over the world:

- Eurofins companies strive to have the least possible negative impact on the external environment, including conscious and minimal use of non-renewable resources, as well as exhibiting behaviour that contributes to the least possible emissions of environmental gases
- Continuous improvement to our environmental management systems and the prevention of pollution
- Minimal use of health-hazardous chemicals in our operations
- Contributing to fair trade through the conscious use of suppliers

To support our focus on the environment, all Eurofins companies in Norway are members of Grønt Punkt, which is a certification programme for environmental responsibility.

Environment and the laboratory

Our laboratories have a minimal impact on the environment in terms of emissions to soil, water, or air. Despite this, we are aware that our essential operations impact the environment in various ways, and we continuously strive to implement measures that reduce this burden.

To ensure minimal impact on the surrounding environment, we have taken the following steps:

- Use of reusable packaging (cool bags) when shipping samples from customers to the laboratory
- Source separation and delivery of hazardous waste to approved disposal facilities
- Reduction of the use of hazardous chemicals by transitioning to less harmful alternatives
- Review of suppliers for environmental certification
- Use of Fairtrade products where available
- Coordination of sample transport to reduce the number of kilometres driven
- Use of virtual meetings to reduce travel-related emissions

As a testament to our environmental focus, both Eurofins Environment Testing Norway AS and Eurofins Food & Feed Testing Norway AS are certified according to ISO 14001.

The ISO 14001 certification shows that our environmental management system has been measured against and complies with a standard for good environmental management. The standard requires the identification of all environmental impacts and the implementation of measures to improve procedures in prioritized areas. ISO 14001 sets good practices for a precautionary policy regarding our impact on the environment. The certification is carried out by an independent third party and requires us to actively reduce the environmental impacts of the company, its products, and services to a minimum.
